Starlancer Max Review

A Comprehensive Review of the Starlancer Max in Star Citizen

The Starlancer Max, a medium freighter in Star Citizen, offers an excellent balance between cargo space and usability, bridging the gap between the Freelancer and Starfarer. In this review, we'll break down its design, performance, and operational features.

Ship Tour: Design & Layout

The Starlancer Max is built for heavy hauling, equipped with a spacious cargo deck that accommodates 32 SCU crates. Notably, the ship has a vehicle bay for additional cargo storage and a modular habitation area, with four habitation suites, an engineering section, and an armory.

Accessing the upper and lower decks is possible via elevators or ladders, while the cargo ramp is deployable for easy loading and unloading. There's also a kitchen, a bar, and a recreation area, highlighting the comfort of long-haul journeys.

Combat Performance: Defenses & Armament

While not a combat-focused ship, the Starlancer Max packs solid defensive tools. It comes equipped with four size 4 weapons and 16 size 3 missiles. Additionally, it features two remote turrets, each armed with dual size 4 weapons. These defenses make it capable of handling NPC threats, but it’s more suited for hauling than combat.

Handling & Visibility

The Starlancer Max offers a modest top speed of 950 m/s, making it sluggish but steady, perfect for cargo runs. The cockpit visibility is limited, offering the classic feel of a freighter. However, it handles well within its speed range, with decent thruster control and good quantum travel range.

Operating Costs: Fuel & Profitability

Operating the Starlancer Max is relatively cost-efficient, with most expenses going towards fuel. It offers a significant cargo capacity of 224 SCU. Its versatility allows for multiple contracts and vehicle storage in the rear bay, making it ideal for hauling medium cargo or mining groups.

Verdict: Is It Worth It?

The Starlancer Max is a trending and an effective mid-tier hauler, offering great cargo space, a comfortable living area, and a reasonable price point at 8.8 million credits or $250. It’s not perfect, with some quirks like the lack of a tractor beam and limited combat capacity, but it’s a solid choice for medium-range freighters.
